Facelift Scars
Facelift scars are possibly my favorite kind of scar to camouflage. The subtlety required is something that comes naturally to me as an artist and I absolutely love to see the client's reaction when we nail the color match and they are able to see a result after just one session. Unlike dark scars.. facelift scar camouflage is much more likely to see an impactful result after just one treatment. As with all scars, there are of course different variables that can come into play such as the texture and age of the scar that will affect the application of ink. But overall this is sure to be a very successful treatment for 99% of clients. I would be happy to discuss this more in depth with you.
The surgeons role
Concealing Facelift Scars
The key to hiding facelift scars is having an expert surgeon who knows all the tricks. Instead of long, straight scars, your doc will make shorter, curved cuts that contour along with your natural features.
They'll use specialized tools to stitch you up perfectly. And certain techniques during surgery reduce tension on the scars while they heal. Less tension = thinner scars.
Your surgeon may even limit the incisions to small cuts around your ears and hairline. While not suitable for every patient, these "minimal incision" facelifts result in virtually invisible scars.
Even with every precaution taken, there still may be white scarring remaining around the face, but not to worry! Camouflage tattoo is an excellent solution for this kind of scar.
FAQs
Facelift Scar Healing
How do facelift scars look on people with darker skin tones?
People with darker complexions are at higher risk of more visible scarring from any type of surgery, including facelifts. However, scars may be improved by avoiding sun exposure, gentle scar massage, silicone sheeting, and the possible use of bleaching creams or other treatments to reduce pigmentation in the scars. Be sure to discuss all your options with your surgeon.
Can a facelift be done with an endoscope to prevent scarring?
While marketed under names like “endoscopic facelift,” there are no clinically proven endoscopic techniques that allow a facelift to be performed without any incisions. All effective facelift techniques require carefully placed incisions around the ear, scalp and hairline. The use of an endoscope or other devices may limit incisions but cannot eliminate them.
Should I avoid exercising after a facelift to prevent stretching the scars?
Your surgeon will provide guidance on when you can resume exercise after surgery. Light activity can usually be resumed in 2-4 weeks. More intense exercise may need to wait 6 weeks or longer. With your doctor’s okay, gently returning to exercise will not damage facelift scars. But take care to avoid movements that overly stretch the skin while scars are still new.
Should I avoid tanning beds after a facelift to protect the scars?
Exposure to ultraviolet light, whether from sunlight or tanning beds, can significantly darken surgical scars and interfere with proper healing. For at least 6 months post-op, it’s best to completely avoid tanning beds, apply daily sunscreen, and protect scars from sun exposure. Tanning beds are never recommended, even after scars have matured.
