When it comes to breast lift surgery, the type of incision used will determine what scars result from your procedure. As a camouflage tattoo artist, these are three common types of breast lift scars I work on and cover:
"Donut" Incision ( Concentric ): This incision goes all the way around the areola and usually results in a nearly invisible scar once healed. If you don't need a major lift, you may be able to opt for this kind of incision and have great naturally healed results.
"Lollipop" Incision (Circumvertical ): Similar to the concentric incision, this incision also goes around the areola but adds a vertical line down towards the bottom of the breast. It provides a moderate lift for smaller-breasted women.
"Anchor" Incision (Inverted T or "T Scars") : This is the style of breast scar I see most often because the anchor incision is the most commonly used breast lift incision. It goes around the areola, down vertically to the bottom of the breast, and horizontally along the inframammary crease. This approach provides the most dramatic lift, but can also leave unmistakeable scarring for the patient/client.
Every surgeon will make their best attempt at creating and closing a scar with precision to minimize scar visibility. The choice of incision type depends on factors such as existing breast tissue, skin elasticity, the desired amount of lift, and whether a breast reduction or augmentation is also being performed.
As your incisions heal, the scars will initially appear as raised, red lines. However, they will gradually fade, flatten, and lighten over time, becoming less visible. While everyone's healing process is different, it's worth considering that some faint scarring may still remain.
To get a better idea of potential scarring, it can be helpful to view before and after photos of real breast lift patients. These photos can give you a sense of how the scars may look during different stages of healing.
The good news is, with scar camouflage tattooing now available to cover and conceal these post surgery scars, you don't have to worry about getting your procedure done!
You still want to do everything you can after your procudure however, to help the scars heal as best they can.
To minimize scarring after a breast lift, there are some tips you can follow:
Wearing SPF: Protecting your scars from the sun can help prevent discoloration and promote better healing. Make sure to apply sunscreen to the incision areas when exposed to the sun.
Avoiding vigorous exercise: It's important to avoid strenuous activities until cleared by your surgeon. This allows your incisions to heal properly without being subject to excessive strain or rubbing.
Choosing comfortable bras: Select bras that are supportive and do not irritate or put excessive pressure on the surgical areas. This can help with the healing process and minimize discomfort.
Using silicone sheets or scar gels: I have a list of my favorite products you can view here, to help improve the appearance of scars. They work by hydrating the scar tissue and promoting a flatter, smoother texture.
Remember, the decision on which breast lift technique to choose should be made in consultation with a qualified surgeon who can provide personalized guidance based on your unique circumstances.
